Day 7 Friday 8th July: Swakkopmund, Namibia

Much is documented about this quaint little town on the West Coast of Africa. The German architecture and history is evident wherever you go. Almost all the population seem to speak Afrikaans before Engels; and are very friendly, polite and welcoming. We all split up this morning and went about replenishing food and booze for the trip up to Etosha. I spent time having a windscreen mended – a wound received on the dusty tracks yesterday. By lunchtime it was back to what we seem to have mastered on this trip, eating well – we found a lovely restaurant called The Raft, literally ‘out-to-sea’ in Walvis Bay. After a very relaxed lunch we returned to start planning the route to Etosha; packing our freshly washed laundry, and probably early to bed. It’s another six hours on the road tomorrow. Six hours, no doubt of wonderful scenery and then of course, the magnificent Etosha awaits....
