Day 3 Monday 4th July: Rooiputs Camp Kalagadi

Happy birthday Francesca!

It only gets light around 07h00 and the early mornings are freezing. Slowly everyone congregates around the fire for coffee and rusks. We had a wonderful cook up breakfast. Jimmy has definately earned the title of Master Chef Kalahari, we have been eating like kings! We set off on our first official day of game driving while you don't see lots of game, what you do see is in the open and can be observed for a long time. The drive takes you through a variety of different landscapes, one minute you will be in a bone dry riverbed and the next climbing through an amazing variety of grasses as you undulate from one dune to another. The gemsbok are huge and regal in their posuture. The desert is full of Korhaan, ostrich, bat eared fox, jackal, pygmy falcon, pale chanting goshawks and many LBJ's. It's quiet, peaceful and huge.

Master Chef produced delicious lamb on the webber with spuds and skottle veg. We went to bed and fell asleep listening to two jackal giggling not so far away....
